Top 5 Beaches in Destin Florida
Top 5 Beaches in Destin Florida
So, you're wondering what the best beaches are in the Destin, Florida area? Well, lucky for you, my team and I came up with the top five beaches in the Destin City area. Now, you want to stick around for number one because it may come to you as a surprise.
So, let's get right into it.
5. June White Decker Park
Now, this is a smaller Park that has beach access. It is actually located just kind of where 98 kind of curves up. It's over by the Ruth's Chris restaurant that they have there as well as The Back Porch Restaurant that's actually there right on the beach. So, things that I do like about this, it does have bathrooms, it does have showers, and here's the best part, it's free! So, it can get crowded because there's not a whole lot of space between the private beach part and the actual open part to the public. However, it's nice to be able to go there. If you want to go out, bring the kiddos with you, or, you know, just go out and hang out for the day. It still has access to some of the other shops that are there. I already mentioned the restaurant and of course, for the kids, there's the Candymaker candy store. That's actually right there around the corner. And if you got a sweet tooth, this is a great place to go.
4. Santa Rosa Island Beach Park
We commonly call it the Redneck Beach. I don't know where that came from but that's kind of what we call it. It is currently closed as of June 2020, just due to the covid-19 restrictions. However, when it does open back up, there's lots of parking there, the beaches there aren't that great, but right across away, because you're right there where the Destin Bridges. You have Crab Island and you'll be able to maybe catch a ride from a water taxi or boat or whatever because you're going to see that entire Beach filled up with people that have gone ahead and Beach their boats and their families are out pet playing in the water. It's just gorgeous out there. So that's what we have for number four.
3. Norriego Point
Norriego point is located just off of where the harbor walk is. It actually surprisingly enough was almost completely wiped out with a hurricane that was in 2003 or 2005. And it actually took a good portion of that out and only just a couple of years ago. They actually went through and dredge the area and built that Peninsula back out. They turned it into a park and they added all these extra features into it. They Actually revamp, the parking still, not that great, but they still revamp the parking that's out there. They have new seawalls, the breakers, which gives you sheltered swimming areas because if not, you just, you just have those waves that are coming in all the time and I'll beat you up especially if the kids are going a little crazy. During Peaks times, it does have lifeguards, which is nice and it's usually not flooded with people, obviously, Destin's always flooded during our hot Seasons, but in relative respect.
2. James Lee Beach
Now, this is the one that's probably further east towards Miramar Beach. However, it is a nice little area that you can go out to. It's got Pavilions, showers, again, that's free. It also has bathrooms out there that you can get a little place like for weddings and stuff that you can do. The city of Destin's going to charge you a $50 permit fee to actually do that to, you know, do the bare feet weddings sort of thing out there. But it's definitely pretty cool. You can walk down the beach and hit the Crab Trap, Destin's Crab Trap because there are three of them out there, I believe. But you can hit down there, get some delicious libations and just enjoy the absolutely beautiful beach that is out there. Now, one other thing with that too is that you do have a good amount of free parking there as well. So that you'll be able to get in there and you know, not have to spend a whole bunch.
1. Henderson Beach State Park
Now, one big but downfall to this is, yeah, you got to pay to get to it. But is it worth the experience? Well, if you ask me, it absolutely is. It's only six dollars per vehicle. But when you get in there, you have tons of like nice, like taking care of beaches. There are lifeguards out there. There are places to go fishing, there are restrooms, showers. Typically, not that crowded again because people have to pay to get there, right? There is a hiking, you can still set up your weddings there. It's a little bit more of a fee. There are areas for biking like it's a good amount of area for you to go check out. So, if we're sure, the Henderson Beach is probably your best bet in trying to find the best beach here in Destin.
So, that's all that we do have for you.
