The Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island, FL
Looking for a fun place to hang out on Okaloosa Island? Check out the Boardwalk!
The Boardwalk is a great spot to hang out, for the most obvious reason being it is right on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico.
The Boardwalk has 4 delicious restaurants to check out: The Crab Trap, Rockin Tacos, Floyd’s Shrimp House, and Al’s Beach Club. You can’t go wrong with any of them!
There is also a coffee shop, Oasis, and a gelato place, Pino Gelato, if you’re looking for a sweet treat.
The Boardwalk also has several shops with everything you need for a fun day at the beach, including a kite shop where you can pick up a really cool kite.
The Boardwalk has many different events throughout the year.
- On New Year’s Day they have a Pelican Plunge which is where a bunch of slightly crazy people plunge into the ocean to celebrate the new year. If you’re like me and are freezing in 80-degree weather, this is a fun event to simply watch.
- In April, they host Volleyball Week. Volleyball is a very popular sport to play at the Boardwalk. There are several volleyball courts lining the ocean side of the complex.
- Throughout the year there are various movie nights where they set up a giant inflatable screen and you can bring a blanket and hang out on the beach while you watch the movie.
- In the summers, they have fireworks every Wednesday night and Beach Luau Parties every Thursday night.
Live music is very popular here on the Gulf Coast, and there is no shortage of it at the Boardwalk. Many of the restaurants have live music almost every night.
Even though I don’t think these are technically part of the Boardwalk, I want to mention a couple of other places in the area. The Okaloosa Pier is right next to the Boardwalk which is a great place to go fishing, or if you just want to walk out on it and get a nice look at the coastline, you can do that as well.
Next door to the Boardwalk is the Gulfarium which is an awesome place to visit! You can swim with dolphins, harbor seals, stingrays, sea lions, penguins… they have all kinds of cool animals! I grew up here and still get excited about going to the Gulfarium!
That’s a little inside look at some fun things to do on Okaloosa Island. So, come on out and grab a bite to eat, soak up the sun, maybe play some volleyball, and just relax because you’re guaranteed to have a great time! For more information, check out the Boardwalk's website.
