Should you Move to Fort Walton Beach FL - Top 7 Reasons to Live in Fort Walton!
People always tell us that they want to move to Fort Walton Beach, but they ask us what are some of the reasons as to why they should choose Fort Walton Beach over any of the other cities nearby. Well, in this blog, we are going to tell you the seven reasons why Fort Walton Beach is a great place to move to. So, let's get going:
1. Okaloosa Island
Fort Walton Beach (and the surrounding areas) are known for the white sandy beaches and Okaloosa Island is heart of it. What makes Okaloosa Island so great is that there is plenty to do. If you want around restaurants, activities, and other people, then there is plenty of beach to enjoy those things. However, if you want to be somewhat on your own, then there are three miles of untouched beach at your disposal. After you get past the condos, the land belongs to the United States Military, which means that there are no buildings on the stretch of beach. Therefore, all you have is the beautiful white sand and relaxation.
2. Traffic
While we wish we could say that traffic doesn't exist in Fort Walton Beach, we can't. Although, it is not nearly as bad as it is in Destin. From Spring to the beginning of Fall, traffic can get a bit congested. Thankfully, Fort Walton Beach does have plenty of alternative routes you can take to get to your destination. However, this does mean that you will need to take routes that go around the bay.
3. Proximity to Hurlburt and Eglin AFB
One of the largest employers on the Emerald Coast is the United State Military. With that being said, Fort Walton Beach is right in between the two bases. So, if you are an active-duty service member or contractor, then you are really only a few miles from the entrances to the base, which makes your commutes that much better.
4. Great Restaurants and Bars
Fort Walton Beach is incredibly diverse and has a variety of different restaurants and bars you can go to. Fort Walton Beach has almost everything you can ever want. It has delicious Mexican food, German food, Thai, and even your typical American food. Obviously, you can't have a coastal city without seafood and Fort Walton Beach has a plethora of options for you. So, no matter what, you will never be short of places to eat. Furthermore, you have a few breweries in the area and places that offer a full bar. If you want our recommendation on a place to try, go to The Gulf. You'll thank us later.
5. Tons of Shopping Options
If you need to go on errands or want to get out to do some retail therapy, then you won't have to travel far. Fort Walton Beach has all your more common stores, like Sam's Club, Walmart, Target, etc., that you need, but also plenty of stores where you can go shopping. Santa Rosa Mall has some of your more mainstream stores where you can go spend some time, but there are also several other retail stores spread out through the city.
6. In the Middle of Where you Want to Go
Another great aspect of Fort Walton Beach is that is pretty much sits in the middle of everywhere you would want to go. To the West, you have Pensacola and to the East, you have Panama City Beach. Plus, it is adjacent to Destin. Additionally, if you head a little North, you can get to I-10, which will take you to anywhere you need to go. Having easy access to these places is often what residents of Fort Walton Beah mention is one of their favorite things.
7. Great Home Prices
Last, but not least, Fort Walton Beach has incredible prices for homes. Fort Walton Beach serves as the happy medium in terms of home price for the surrounding area. You won't be paying nearly as much as what you would be paying in Destin, but not as inexpensive as Navarre or Crestview. The median home price in Fort Walton Beach is $260,000. However, you can still find luxurious, multi-million dollar homes and also your bargain deal properties if you look hard enough. So you have your options.
