How Safe is Destin Florida?

Thinking about moving to Destin, Florida and wondering, well, is this place safe? Well, in this video, we're going to talk about how safe this area is and whether or not this might be a good place for you and your loved ones. So, stick around.

Okay. So, the question you're asking, how safe is Destin, Florida? Well, let's talk about Destin, Florida. Why move to this area? Well, obviously, the white sand beaches and all the wonderful things that you can do. It's a beach town. And it's not just beach town, but it's also a tourist town too. So, there's tons of events to do for you, the family, whatever.

The weather is absolutely gorgeous. Almost all throughout the year. Does get a little cold every once in a while, but yeah, it's absolutely great and lots of sunshine. And of course, fantastic world class boating and fishing in this area. Destin actually was known as one of the luckiest fishing villages which we'll have to tell that story another time. And of course, a great community. This area is awesome. We get a good mix of true Floridians. Right? There's a ton of transplants just like myself all throughout this community. We also get that little bit of Southern feel that comes down from, you know, Alabama. We're pretty much southern Alabama here in the Panhandle, Florida. But all of this in intertwined in the, there's a big military community. So, there's a lot of vets like myself in this area as well that really just makes up for everything and is absolutely gorgeous.

A couple of things to note too that there's plenty of tourists giving really any time of the year, although spring through basically, October, we still see a big influx of those people. But, one of the things that is constant is going to be the atmosphere. Who can be angry when they're on vacation? Not a lot of people. Right? So, that just kind of continues to keep that happy beach going community going on.

CRIME

So, let's talk about crime. Right? So, let's talk about violent crimes. What does violent crimes? Could be murder, rape, robbery, assault, whatever you want to call it. Right?  Property crime. Property crime includes burglary, theft, vehicle theft, theft, what have you. K? And, all the data I'm about to share with you are ratings that we found online. And, most of which what I will give with you was from areavibes.com. So, you can look this up. If you need to get updated information, you can take a look at that.

So, is Destin Safe? It is. Alright. So, how do I describe this? So, let's go through that. We'll go through the violent property and total crime give you overall rating. Alright?

VIOLENT CRIME

So, violent crimes that we mentioned before. We've got the national average, which is 384 per 100,000 people. Right? In Florida, just the state of Florida, it's 388 per 100,000. And here in Destin, it's estimated to be around 160 for every 100,000. So, significantly different. Right?

PROPERTY CRIME

Property crime, across the United States. For property crime, it's 1,958 per 100,000 people. In Florida, that's 1,769 per 100,000. And here in beautiful Destin, and there's only 736 per 100,000. Pretty good. Right? Alright.

TOTAL CRIME

Total crime, let's put it all together. National average is 2,346 per 100,000. In Florida, Florida's 2,153 per 100,000 and total crime in Destin is estimated to be around 895 per 100,000. So, you're probably pretty safe. Pun intented. Alright.

Overall, rating. What is it rating? They rate it on this website to an A+. You are safe team in this area. Right? Total crime is 62% below the national average. Okay? Total crime 59% below the national average. Property crime, 62% below the national average.

Now, as I talked at the beginning of this video, from my personal experience, I've lived all around the world. Okay? And the military brought me all around these different places. And a lot of times when you go to a city or a specific area, you know that there's certain areas that you need to avoid. Okay? And there's certain areas that the hair on the back of your neck stands up, this just, it doesn't feel right, okay? When I moved to this area, when I was first stationed here with the military, there was no area like that. Because most of the time if you've been in the military or associated with somebody and been to their base, the area right outside the base is usually the worst areas ever. It's the most impoverished areas ever. Right? And it just didn't exist here. I tried to do a video on some of the worst places around the base and I really didn't have much to say in any of those videos because there's really not some bad places around here. And I I'm going to chalk it up to being the environment. It could be the police. It could be the amount of military next military in this town. But, there's really not a whole lot that I'm really concerned about, especially in Destin, Fort Walton, Niceville. Any of these areas that are all throughout the, Miramar, there's really no data that that supports any of this.

Now, because we do have a lot of people from out of town that do come in, we do seem to get a little bit more property crime. But, that's really just going to be said about any of the more destination spots where people trying to get in and do something. So, all in all, this is one of the safest places without being in the middle of the woods for somebody to come live. Definitely use that in your consideration if Destin's going to be safe for you.
